For the last 2 years I've been wanting to try Jiu Jitsu but life got in the way and I've made a number of excuses, i finally pulled the trigger 2 months ago and wish i would have not left it so long! With a background in Rugby and an aging body i thought it may not be for me ...how wrong could I be. The coaches are fantastic and the members are all welcoming and are on hand to help when ever needed. Would highly recommend for all ages and abilities. I just wish i had started sooner!!!!!!

Started here just over a month ago and couldn't feel more welcome already. Started with the free trial and all the staff have been really helpful. No pressure to sign up to long term contacts, let me borrow a gi for the first few weeks till I was sure I was ready to sign up , quick to reply with any questions you have . The academy is always spotless and had no issues at all . Thanks again

I first got to know the guys at Moralis when I took my lads down for a starter session. They were super patient, gave the youngest extra time to get used to it. My boys have progressed well and it’s gives them some self defence skills, without it being kicking and punching. The instructors make the lessons fun, which is a massive part to keeping the kids engaged. Sometime I swear they don’t know they’re learning. Having watched my lads, I decided I’d give it a go myself. The last year or so had been pretty tough, so wanted something to give me focus, and get in shape. I’m not sure I’ve ever found a club so welcoming, and a great community spirit. I can only make one session a week, and not always that if I’m travelling, but I love going. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, kid or big kid…

My son started here with a lack of confidence and struggling with his self image. It has been amazing for his mental health, physical wellbeing and happiness in general. He loves to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from people thinking about starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Moralis.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling martial art based around controlling an opponent using technique, leverage and positioning. Training includes takedowns, escapes, pins and submissions, with live sparring giving you the chance to apply what you learn against a resisting partner.

You don’t need any previous experience or a particular level of fitness to begin. Our beginner classes teach the fundamentals in a structured way, allowing you to build confidence and progress at your own pace. Your strength, fitness and mobility will naturally improve through regular training.

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing with no zips or buttons. We also have spare loan gis available for trial sessions. Once you decide to join, we’ll guide you on what gear to get.

Yes. We run separate classes for Kids aged 5–9 and Juniors and Teens aged 10–15. Both programmes use age-appropriate, structured sessions to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Younger students focus on movement, coordination, listening and confidence, while older students learn more technical material and continue developing fitness, resilience and independence.

One class a week is enough to get started. Training two or three times a week will usually help you progress more quickly, but the right amount depends on your schedule and goals.

In Gi BJJ, you wear a jacket and belt that can be gripped. No-Gi is trained in fitted athletic clothing without jacket grips. The core skills overlap, but the grips and some techniques differ. You can train Gi, No-Gi or a mix of both.

Children can start training from age five. We group students by age and ability to make sure they learn in a safe, supportive and appropriate environment.
